Your poll on flares!

Your poll on flares was a bit limited. First a ranking poll might have been more helpful, letting people rank 1-5, etc. second, I answered “something else” but wasn’t given an opportunity to say what that was—which was diet and SUGAR. So for the the poll and links weren’t that useful, FYI

  1. Hi , it's good to hear from you again. We really appreciate your feedback on the poll. I will definitely send it to our team so they can take your feedback into account for the next one. Thanks so much! How are you doing currently? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Doing really well overall. The diet change along with daily low dose prednisone is working so far which is good since many of the other medications are contraindicated for me.

      1. that is so great! I'm so happy to hear that the diet change is still going well and you're noticing a change with both that and the low dose prednisone. It's great you've been able to find something when so many of the other medications don't work for you! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. Hi Christine. I missed article on diet change can you post some thing because I’m having trouble with the nightshade vegetables and something I’m eating that’s giving me flareups. Thank you.

      1. Hi . I'm tagging so she will see you post, but I also want to share some items with you. This article from our editorial team discusses what is known as the autoimmune protocol diet: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/clinical/aip-diet. A couple of our contributors wrote about their experiences with it here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/aip-diet-plan and here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/aip-experience. In addition, in this article our contributor Melissa wrote about some anti-inflammatory foods: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/nutrition/10-green-red-fruits-veggies-eat.
Also, I can tell you that what may work for one may not for another. My wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), was diagnosed at age two, 45 years ago and has found that while some foods (mostly nightshades) may be problematic, diet has only impacted her RA on the margins. She believes an overall healthy diet, however, has helped her overall condition. She wrote about her experience here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/diet-holistic-approach. Others have had more success with diet. Hope this information is helpful and please feel free to ask further questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      2. Hi , I'm so sorry I missed your comment from last week. Hopefully some of the articles that Richard shared (below) were helpful. I am also sorry to hear that you're dealing with something that's giving you flareups. That sounds incredibly frustrating. Nightshades are a food group that a lot of our community members have found trigger RA symptoms, so you're not alone. One of our advocates also wrote about some tips she had for getting started on dietary changes that you might also be interested in, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/clean-body-tips. Sending you gentle hugs! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
