My Doctor has never mention flares is that unusual?

  1. Hi, !

If your doctor is aware of your RA diagnosis and has never mentioned flares, well, I do find that a bit unusual and I wonder why he/she hasn't discussed flares with you. Do you have any idea why?

    1. My dr hadn’t at the time discussed flares until Dec 2024. Then he apologized and said he had hoped that there would be time. Since then the flare hasn’t abated. But the symptoms are much worse

      1. , hmmmm. I realiz our healthcare system is kind of a mess and many doctors are frazzled and overworked, but he NEEDS to make time to talk to you about your flares. That's part of his job. He needs to do more than 'hope' there will be time to discuss things. Maybe you need to request a longer appointment time when you get your next appointment scheduled. I know normal appointments at my PCP's office are only 15 minutes, but you can get longer appointment slots, especially if you are seeing a specialist, like a rheumatologist. Really. This is important and your concerns need to be properly addressed.

    2. Thanks Erin
I am learning to be more assertive.
      Seems to be helping
      Slowly
Taking my hubby and he’s a warm fuzzy assertive person

      1. , you've got this! I HATE being assertive, so I am right there with you with having to learn how to be more firm and direct about our needs. And, taking my husband seems to help, too. I don't know if it's because I have "back up" or because he's a man (I hate to think that's the reason), but his presence does seem to help. I am glad your husband can be assertive for you! Advocating for yourself can be exhausting -- it's nice to not have to do it alone all the time.

    3. Yes it is exhausting but who better than the one with the glue to help piece you back together again when the next treatment plan fails
