I am 35 year old male that was diagnosed with RA about two years ago.

I was first diagnosed with RA 2 years ago back in 2024. I’m on Methotrexate injections and Folic Acid. I’m having a new symptom I’ve never had before. I don’t know if it is related to RA for sure though. For the the last two days I’ve been having a lighting type pain that’s located in my top chest area, and radiates 4 inches. The pain only lasts for no more then 5 seconds or so. Has anyone else out there had anything similar.

  1. Hi, ! Thanks for sharing your current situation with us. Chest pain is never fun and should always be taking seriously. RA can cause some weird nerve or inflammation-related sensations. While I can't give you any medical advice, based off what you're describing it sounds like it could be Costochondritis which is basically inflammation where your ribs meet your breastbone. It’s pretty common with people living with RA. I will share a link to a few articles that can explain this in greater detail- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/video/costochondritis-chest-pain, and https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/chest-pain-costochondritis. Nonetheless, your chest pain should definitely be mentioned and checked with your doctor. I hope you can get some clear answers and relief soon! All the best, Latoya (Team Member)

  2. Thank you so much Latoya. I have had that before, costochondritis, so I know what you mean. That helps me a lot. I am glad I just found this sight with the forums and joined today. My Mom suggested it and thought it could help me. Again, I really appreciate it!
    God Bless You,
