Can you have RA and osteoarthritis?

Hi. I'm new to the group. I am having horrible fatigue and severe hand and finger joint pain. I have an apt on the 30th. My question is, - I have had for years what I believed was osteoarthritis in my right hand and other areas. But now .....i'm having terrible pain in my non dominant hand as well. I am soooo tired I can't see straight and I KNOW something is not right. Can you have both arthritis's? 🙁

  1. Hi Valjoy, yes you can. I have them both. Good luck.

    1. Hi Valjoy. Sorry you are experiencing these pains. The short answer to your question is, yes, a person can (and many do) have RA and osteoarthritis.

You mention an appointment on the 30th. Is that with a rheumatologist? If so, this article discusses what to expect from your first appointment: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/what-to-expect-at-your-first-rheumatologist-appointment. 1. I have RA and osteoarthritis.

        1. It’s certinaly possible and can make things very difficult to separate. The best thing you can do is try to keep a pain journal, of what hurts where and after doing what activities. You might be able to discern which is what and how to avoid it. Keep on keepin’ on, DPM
