I just was diagnosed three weeks ago.

Pain like no other

Before being diagnosed I had terrible flare-ups, mostly in my hands. I never experienced pain like that before.

I’m pretty healthy and exercise, though lately not so much.

Well, here is the kicker - I cannot get into a specialist till February 14th.

My PCP is treating me with prednisone for the pain right now. This is all new to me.

Any feedback is appreciated. Question has anyone taken a holistic approach if so does it work?

In some ways, it can also take a long time to even get a diagnosis for some, so at least you know what you're up against, which will clarify your treatment options. To your question about holistic health, that is certainly an option. You'll learn that RA impacts everyone differently so there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Many end up trying different things, with the input of their doctor. Unfortunately, that is something as a community that we all can really relate to. It is also not uncommon for lengthy wait time to get an initial visit appointment, to see a Rheumatologist. I wish this was not the case. I have attached a link to an article written by one of my team mates. In addition, you may notice in the link on managing a new RA diagnosis provided by <inline-mention username="RHall" user-id="3226625"/> there is an article from Carla titled "No.1 - The Diagnosis." This is actually the first in a series of ten articles she wrote on things she would tell her newly diagnosed self - all of which are excellent. You can find her other articles by clicking on her name at the top. Finally, I'd like to stress that a full and happy life is absolutely possible. I know its so frustrating not to have quick access or at least timely access to specialists, but once you get in if you feel comfortable with this doctor, and heard, and listened to , then stay with him or her,, BUT ,, ,if you feel you are not being listened to , if this doctor does not listen to your symptoms, and take them into consideration more then any test result, or if you feel put down ,, change doctors,, dont waste time, many years, like I did afraid to advocate for myself, and find that specialist ,, who would listen and be compassionate, and still wise medically.. Ive had R.A. for decades, in varying degrees, and now that Im a senior its worse, but that could be becuase of age, and I also have many other chronic pain and arthritic issues, which all add to the pain and fatigue. Do your research,, and stay connected to this support site , check the validity of everything you read. Having supportive family helps a lot as well. And we are here for you.
