Does anyone have issues with nail growth?

I'm not sure if this is RA related or not. Google search gave me mixed answers.
A few months ago, my big toenail on my left foot started doing something strange. The nail acts like it's still growing, but there's no new nail growth. The nail still pushes forward and I have a gap between the cuticle and the old nail. It's also disconnected from the nail bed except the sides. It's not bothering me, it's just odd. I won't mind losing the nail. My big toenails always grow ingrown, so it may be a blessing in disguise. I'm just curious if it's from the RA and if others have experienced it

  1. Hi . I know that, unfortunately, nail issues are not uncommon with RA. I want to share with you this previous Forum discussion on the topic: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/skin-hair-and-nail-issues. I can also tell you that my wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), has had her share, although not quite like you describe. Her podiatrist has been for everything from nail to toe to ankle issues. Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. You woudln't believe how fast my nails grow with RA. After decades I literally get a week, MAYBE before they are at it again and scratchin up and getting caught everywhere. I have had literally four nail cutters break in 20 years. FOUR! Who does that? HA ha. You are not alone. Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  3. , while I can't offer anything on top of what Richard and Dan already shared, I have learned that when it comes to autoimmune conditions like RA, it seems like almost nothing is off the table in terms of symptoms! Of course, I have to mention that it's important to have any new or worsening symptoms checked out by your doctor, just to be safe. I know you know this, but, still, I want to cover all the bases.
