Hello, could anyone offer advice on the best heated blankets to use in bed? Do u prefer under the sheet or ones that go over the top??? Are there any styles youd avoid?

Hi,
I do hope you get some feedback from other community members as to their personal favorites heated blankets and such. In the meantime, I can't say that I have a brand preference, but we sure do like our heated blankets/throws/pads in my house! We have actually worn out three heated throws and numerous heating pads over the years! We tend to just go with Sunbeam brand, available at Walmart, as it's a cheap and reliable brand.
I actually use a heated mattress pad in the winter months in lieu of a heated blanket. I just turn on the mattress pad about 30 minutes before bed and make sure the blankets are pulled over the mattress. When I go to climb in, it's just the right level of warmth and feels so good!
I used to use a heated blanket on my bed and I liked having it as the topmost layer, so I could throw it off if I got too hot during the night. I will say that I have been using the term "throw" and "blanket" interchangably, but my family tends to like the throws, as they are lighter and aren't so big that a person gets tangled up or something. Throws are about the size of the blankets they sell in stores that are meant for wrapping up in on the couch while watching TV or something. So, they are even a bit smaller than a twin size blanket. They tend to be less expensive and easier to find at most big box stores.
There may be brands to avoid; I don't know. I do like heated products with a built in timer (they usually go up to 4 hours), for safety. I think many of them come with that feature. Especially for older adults and those that have trouble adjusting in bed, it's important to be safe with heating products, as they can damage the skin, if used incorrectly.
I wish you luck and hope you find the product that works best for you!
