It’s a pain in the butt - flare ups - just me?

I have had two medications now. I have injections 40mg, once a week, then I was put on a cheaper injection but I can’t understand why I have such terrible flair ups! I thought that having the injections I would not have flair ups, well, how I was wrong! They are so bad I can’t even butter a slice of bread and most times I can’t get out of bed. I am so sick of the pain I end up in tears. I have flair ups pretty often and now I have this lump on one of my fingers. I have pain in all of my joints and even in my jaw lately. I have dry eyes and mouth and I get spots on the top of my arms and my skin is dry and itchy. Has any one got any ideas what I can do?

  1. Hi Maz71)2. Your frustration is more than understandable. Your symptoms certainly sound like those many here will recognize. Unfortunately, treatment is basically trial and error and what works for one may not for another. Our contributor Kelly wrote this article on how to know when to change treatments: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/when-to-change-medications. Don't hesitate to speak to your doctor about whether a change is necessary. Fortunately, there are more options now than ever. I also want to share with you this article on pain management specialists: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/pain-management-specialist. While you search for an effective treatment a pain management specialist may at least be able to help control the pain. Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts. Hoping you get some relief soon. Best, Richard (Team Member)
