Weight loss

I have been thin my entire life. The exception being when I was pregnant ! When I’ve taken methotrexate and other biologics it was worse. When I was still working of course it was much worse. I am now only on Plaquenil so my weight maintains around 105lbs. —normal for me. What I cannot stand is other people’s comments “ eat a burger “ etc. Mind you I eat. I cook — rather well. It’s bad enough we get the looks and comments pointing out our crooked joints but throw in the mean looks or remarks about our eating habits and it makes me want to stay away from the public. Just stay with my family and close friends. What other comments have you received that you wish people would have kept to themselves?

  1. Hi . While more people struggle with weight gain, often due to steroids and difficulty with motion and exercise, it is not rare for those with RA to have weight loss issues. Has your doctor had anything to say on the topic? Here is a Medical News Today article discussing it: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/323614 and here a Q&A on the topic from the Arthritis Foundation notes a couple of causes: https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/about-arthritis/related-conditions/physical-effects/expert-q-a-ra-and-weight-loss.

Concerning the comments, I wish I had some answers - definitely not as easy as looking up some medical research. One thing a chronic condition like RA will teach a person is who can be counted on. Please know that people here understand. Best, Richard (Team Member)
