Allodynia and RA - Anyone heard of it?

Hi I’m 64 and at 58 was diagnosed with aggressive seropositive Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis and have just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. In the last few months I’ve had a very odd feeling all across the top part of my back it’s sore and feels like an open wound. This progressed to my whole body. I couldn’t have anyone touch me or cuddle me my skin actually hurt. My doctor told me she had never heard of it in all her 25 years and sent me on my way. I eventually landed up in hospital where a lovely young doctor came to me and asked me to tell her how I feel, after explaining to her for the umpteenth time she held my hand very gently and said Gail you have Allodynia. I burst into tears with relief that someone actually believed me. She put me straight onto pregabalin and the next day it had 90% gone. That’s my story but I would really like to hear if anyone else has ever had it or even heard of it
Much love to you all Gail xx

  1. Hi Gail (). I don't have personal experience with Allodynia, but I am familiar with it. Mind if I ask if you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I ask because fibromyalgia is fairly commonly comorbid with RA and allodynia can come as part of fibromyalgia (see here for example: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/symptoms/21570-allodynia). Plus, Pregabalin is a common treatment for fibromyalgia. So glad to hear that the Pregabalin has worked so well and thank you for sharing, as I'm sure many here are not aware of allodynia.
