Anyone run into problems with inaccessible medical equipment or doctor's offices?

My wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), recently went to a major university teaching hospital for a DEXA bone scan only to find they have no accessible scan tables. Kelly uses a wheelchair, but can stand - it made no difference. The table was just too tall for someone who couldn't use a step stool. I called another university hospital and found the same thing again. The accessible tables supposedly exist, but apparently are like the Yeti, people claim to have seen it, but in the end no one is quite sure they exist.

This is just the most recent in a long line of incidents Kelly has experienced with medical facilities not being accessible. Anyone else have issues with getting medical care due to inaccessibility? Would love to hear your stories and brainstorm on what can be done about it?

  1. Ugh- I hate that Kelly had to experience this, let alone more than once. I would like to believe accessibility is simply just a given. I mean... it is legal...right? It really makes you wonder how much thought is actually being put into patient accessibility. Do you think it’s more about funding or just lack of awareness? -Latoya (Team Member)
