Is there anything out there for me to do as I have been unemployed for about nine years now due to ill health retirement and I feel as if my mental health is deteriorating

Hi
There have been the general things for herself, like exercising to maintain her abilities and reading and educating herself on new things. Besides these things she has gotten more involved in disability advocacy (she has used a wheelchair since childhood). That said, for you, that thing can be whatever would give you some purpose or enjoyment in the now. Whether it be learning something new, like a language or about a culture. My father-in-law loves to garden and got into genealogy. My friend and fellow contributor here, Dan, acts, plays video games, and knows enough about computers to probably be dangerous. My point in mentioning all of these things is for you to do you and explore just what might provide that spark. Don't hesitate to explore try new things and if something isn't for you be willing to say o.k. and find the next thing.
I know I may be making it sound easy, but that is not my intent - I've seen that it is not. I had a career that was also pretty much a passion and had it ripped away. I can tell you that for a while I didn't always handle it very well. The fact that you are here sharing this and recognizing the need to find these things to give you drive, interest and passion is a big step and shows that you are ready. I had to find a new purpose and I've seen plenty of others also find new directions. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing and to reach out with questions - this is a great community that will be there for you. Best, Richard (Team Member)
