Should I take Prolia or Evenity with Xeljanz

I currently take Xeljanz, and I just recently had a mastectomy. I now have to go on Anastrozole for treatment to prevent cancer. This medication usually puts the person into osteoporosis and my doctor is considering either Prolia or Evenity. Both have serious side effects, and I would like opinions as well as if anyone taking either of these to tell me about their experiences.

  1. Hi, !

Wow. You have endured a lot recently! I hope your recovery from the mastectomy has been going pretty smoothly.

I don't have much information on Prolia and Evenity, but there is some info on our sister site dedicated to Advanced Breast Cancer. Admittedly, it's not much, but here's some information on biophosphantes, including Prolia -- https://advancedbreastcancer.net/living/bionj-side-effect. I didn't find any useful information on Evenity on this site or on Advanced Breast Cancer, though. When I can't find info on a medication, one of my go-to sites for reliable data is the Mayo Clinic. So, here's their information on osteoporosis medications -- https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/osteoporosis/in-depth/osteoporosis-treatment/art-20046869. I don't have personal experience with either of these drugs, so, my input is, well, limited in its usefulness. It really comes down to what you feel most comfortable with, especially when both options come with some pretty hefty potential side effects. I hope other community members can share their personal experiences with either of these medications.

And, I hope you stay cancer free and as healthy as possible for rest of 2025!

    1. Erin,
Thank you for your help! I also hope that I will remain cancer free. I am trying to find an osteoporosis medication without increasing the negative side effects that most of these drugs create.

      1. , I hear you and that makes total sense. I wish I had more helpful insight for you, but I'm just entering those perimenopause years and haven't had to think about osteoporosis medications . . . yet. I hope you find the best one for your needs and that you are blessed with minimal (or no!) side effects. I mean, frankly, you deserve a break at this point.
