RA and Sjorgrens

Morning. I have been diagnosed with Sjorgrens syndrome along with my RA. I had finally found a med that has given me energy and helped control the joint destruction. I am now in flare with sore eyes, vision issues, buzzing hands with considerable pain in hands and feet and of course the unrelenting exhaustion is back. I’m wondering if the Sjorgrens is causing the flare and what can be done. I’m stressing about vision loss too. Any experience with these two and ways to cope would be so helpful.

  1. Hi . It is completely understandable to be dismayed by these symptoms. First I want to share this article from our contributor Nan on some of her experience with Sjogren's, mostly focused on the dryness, especially the eyes: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/dry-as-a-desert. In addition, this page from the Johns Hopkins Sjogren's Center discusses the fact that it can definitely cause joint pain: https://www.hopkinssjogrens.org/disease-information/sjogrens-disease/joint-pain. Of course, this does not necessarily mean that it is the Sjogren's that is causing your new symptoms. It is important to speak to your rheumatologist to see if your treatment needs to be adjusted. Hoping you can get some answers and relief soon. Best, Richard (Team Member)
