Liver Issues and RA

Many with RA are no strangers to liver issues; whether from medications, inflammation, of comorbidities. There is an autoimmune condition called Primary Biliary Cholangitis that attacks the liver and 10% of people with that condition have RA. Do you experience any liver issues related to your RA?

  1. No so far I am in the clear I have blood work done ever three months. The problem that I do have is I have a lot of information and my lower L4 L5 I guess, so I have lots of neuropathy so I was referred to a pain management doctor. I had a. EMG nerve test done and it verified that so my pain management doctors starting me on being supplement that is high and B12 B6, and folate to hopefully calm my nerves down. For 60 days and then he wants to do an MRI to see exactly which IS HAPPENING, HE BELIEVES IT’S A DISLOCATED DISC, so he wants to do a nerve block because I have the nerve being pinched off for my knee down, which is causing my toes to be bright red, swollen in burning

    1. Hi . Nerve issues are certainly no fun. Hope these new steps help. As a side note, the folic acid will also help with liver function. People on certain meds, like methotrexate are often told to take it to help ward off issues. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing and wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)

    2. so I was supposed to get them in the mail yesterday. But I forgot an update tha I will be Rachel tomorrow. So we will see! I’m glad that it’s a supplement and “some” doctors aren’t like here take this and the try that and so this .. my pain management has been really great keep you updated. 😊

  2. I have PBC. DX in 2009. RA DX in 2024. Thus, a LOT of RA meds contradicted for me. I also have another condition that contradicts other RA meds. So I’m on the prednisone train and will be for life. Fortunately it works for me for the most part. Really it’s the PBC manifestations that are worse!

    1. Hi . i don't know if you are aware that we have a sister-site for PBC at https://primarybiliarycholangitis.net/. Also, I don't know if you had a chance to see the link I sent you yesterday about the SetPoint vagus nerve stimulation system. I mention it because the issues that you had with contraindications shouldn't apply with SetPoint. Here is a different discussion on SetPoint: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/setpoint-system-just-approved-by-fda. Best, Richard (Team Member)
