Low heart rates

I have a recent Apple Watch and for the past 2 weeks it tells me that my heart beats lower than 40 (38, 39) mostly in the morning while resting. Has anyone experienced this?

  1. Hi, !

That's a pretty low heartbeat, but not alarmingly so. A resting heartrate can range from 40-50 beats per minute, do you're just a bit under that. That said, if this is a new development for you, I would check in with your doctor, just to be safe. Also, maybe check if any medications you may be taking can have an impact on your heartrate (for example, analgesics can lower a person's heartrate). And make note if you are experiencing any other issues along with the low heartrate.

I do hope any members that might have experience with this see your post and chime in here!

    1. This low heart beat is not new and has been happening on and off for the past 2 years. I am a 4 times a week Pickleball player so they say that because I am active it is normal that my heart beat is slower. To reassure me, I went to the ER before I leave for Florida for 6 months. They took blood tests, ECG and all was well. So the doctor gave me the green light to go to Florida but asked me to see a cardiologist in the Spring.

      1. , I am glad everything is okay and that you got it checked out, just to be safe! Enjoy those warmer Florida temps (my Mom heads down for the winter next week) and keep pickleballing! It's a great sport and a good way to stay healthy and active (I am sure you already know that 😉 ).

    2. Hi . Glad to hear it looks like all is well and you have been given the green light for your trip. I don't know if you saw my earlier reply under a different post (https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/how-do-i-deal-with-dizzy-spells-in-the-mornings). I also want to share this page from Harvard Health, which I suspect confirms a lot of what you know. As a side note: my in-laws head to Key West for several months in the winter and my wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here) and I visit for a couple of weeks. Getting down there for those couple of weeks in the winter really does wonders for Kelly's RA. Hope it helps you too. Best, Richard (Team Member)
